In 480 AD, St. Brigid arrived with her nuns and decided to build an 'abbey' in this quaint village under an oak tree. the name of the village evolves from Cill Dara or the Church of the oak. Kildare gradually developed into a market town.

Indo-Anglian Theatre wins new laurels
Christ University, Bangalore was the latest venue for the Indo-Anglian Theatre to achieve runaway success. After receiving awards for Best Actor and Best Actress in the recently concluded B-Zone Arts Festival, the boys and girls displayed a stellar performance and walked away with the Best Team Award in Drama and Street Play categories. Over 30 teams from different parts of India participated.
The Indo-Anglian theatre is a theatre group led by Dr. Lizzy Manjooran comprising of hand-picked students of BA Functional English, Malabar Christian College, Calicut.
